Most things are made on purpose. Rather fewer things end up being what they were made to be. The Institute is interested in the interval between those two states, and in what occupies it.
An object enters the collection not because it was made well, but because its significance arrived later, by a route nobody planned.
The Institute does not hold that accidents are secretly intentional, nor that intention is worthless. It holds that the two are frequently confused after the fact, and that the confusion is worth documenting.
Some of this remains unresolved. The Institute is in no hurry.
